Overview of Facial Skin Care

'The treatment of facial skin' is more a matter of discipline than anything else. What you need is a facial skin care routine (and you will follow the skin care routine with total seriousness). So let's test what constitutes an appropriate skin care routine for facials. Well, quite simply, the following 4 steps can follow a facial skin care routine:

* Toning
* Cleansing
* Moisturising
* Exfoliating

Cleansing is the first thing to do in daily facial skin care. Cleansing helps remove dust, contaminants, grease and extra oil from your skin and thus avoids skin damage. Only take a strong cleansing lotion or cream to mark your face and neck and rub it gently into your skin using upward strokes. Using a soft facial tissue or cotton wool to clean (do not rub) the face in a gentle patting fashion. Cleansing will take place at least twice a day, i.e. morning (as part of the daily facial skin care routine) and evening (on a stand-alone basis). Water soluble cleansers are the most suitable for use in your skin care routine.

Toning is the next procedure in skin care facials. But this is the optional part of the skin care regimen for facials. Cleaning properly will also compensate for toning. Toning helps eliminate all the dirt, grease and residual cleanser residue. Instead of making it part of your everyday skin care routine, you may sometimes use toning, i.e. when you are exposed to especially harsh weather / pollution.

Exfoliation is again, kind of, optional step for facial skin care in the daily routine. Exfoliation is therefore expected at least once a week (or twice, depending on the type of skin and the environmental conditions). Exfoliation finds its place in the routine of facial skin care because of the skin's natural ability to replenish the skin cells every 3 or 4 weeks. As a technique for facial skin care, exfoliation helps eliminate the dead skin cells that obstruct the pores and thereby protects the skin in the natural cycle. Excessive or rough exfoliation, however, can cause skin damage; so you need to balance it out.

The next thing that's moisturizing is facial skin treatment. In fact the most critical aspect of facial skin care routine is moisturizing. Moisturizers avoid drying up of your skin. Dry skin is very undesirable as it causes the skin of the upper layer to split and contributes to dead skin cells. Again, using gentle upward strokes to increase the potency of the moisturiser. Moisturisers work the best when applied on warm and damp skin. So do not try to remove all the moisture in the previous steps of facial skin care routine.

In addition to the usual facial skin care routine, you can also use the following for facial skin care:

* Use quality make-up remover rather than just wiping away
* Pay attention to your skin type and atmosphere when selecting facial skin care items.
* Check it by rubbing it on a small patch of skin, e.g. ear lobes, before you start using a new facial skin care product.
* Never scrub skin too hard.
* Use sunscreen lotions to protect against sun damage.
