Difference - Lotions Vs. Skin Care Creams

Skin care creams and lotions are not dearthed on the market. Name an ailment and you'll find hundreds of creams, lotions, and other skin care products for it. The number of skin care items seems to be on the increase as a result of ongoing research and due to ever growing demand. Skin care lotions and skin care creams are the most common forms available for these items and there always seems to be a debate over which form is better?

Okay, there is no definite answer to that. This seems more like a personal matter of preference. But greasy creams are definitely less common than the non-greasy (or less greasy) ones. Since skin care creams are simpler to apply, they tend to be preferred (over lotions) in situations where the skin care product should not be removed immediately after application. So, as moisturizers, skin care creams seem more popular than as cleansers or toners. Lotions tend to be favoured for toners over creams for skin care. There are some skin care creams that also act as toners but the toners are usually only available in liquid form. Lotions and skin care creams are equally common for cleansing; however, the tilt tends to be more towards lotions.

Creams are considered to be most effective in keeping skin moist; hence moisturizers are the most common type of skin care creams. A lot of people prefer to equate skin care creams with dry, irritated skin because of the same explanation. While it is true to some degree, skin care creams are not only used for dry skin, they are often used to make oily skin products, such as vitamin A creams and sulphur creams, which help to minimize sebum production levels.

Skin care creams are often used for products that compensate for skin disorders in particular for disorders that need drug application over a specific localized area. That is again due to the fact that skin care creams are easier to spread on the infected region (without wastage). However, lotion is a safer option in cases where skin needs to be cleaned using a drug / product. Mostly, the manufacturers too realize this fact, making choosing between a lotion and a skin care cream easier.

Many examples where skin care cream is favoured to its lotion equivalent are the eye-creams and anti-aging creams.

Whatever your choice is (cream or lotion) it is more important to know how to use it effectively than anything else.
