7 Simple Tips to Help Fulfill Your Weight Loss Resolutions author:Tracy Lee source

Indeed, this is the time of the year again. Why is it that everyone starts to think about their new year resolutions every time Jan 1 comes around? Or maybe "new" isn't the right word— maybe "recycled" is more apt? After all, isn't it true that "resolutions are made for most people to be broken?"

Goals are a great way to inspire us to get the things we want in life, but more often than not they simply end up unsuccessful and we get frustrated (again) at the end of the year. But it doesn't need to be this way. Really. You can achieve your goals or resolutions, but only if you know how to set them right first. And I'll give you some useful pointers to help you get started on the right track ...

Start with the end in mind. What would you like to reach the end result? Wanting to lose weight? Or do you want to drop the size of 1 dress instead?-Get it concrete and be practical. Simply say "I want to lose weight" isn't enough. So much exactly would you like to lose? When? Until when? A simpler target is to say "In 3 months I want to lose 11 pounds," and make sure your goal is realistic.

If you want to lose 27 pounds, it's not realistic to say that you want to do that in the next 7 days, not to mention that it's not safe to do that! Or if you've been piling on the weight steadily over the last 10 years, it's not quite realistic to say you'd like to go back to your weight within a month, 10 years ago. --

Break it down into "baby steps" smaller and easier. Let's say you want to lose 20 pounds. That seems like an insurmountable task, but if you look at it as losing an average of 1 pound a week over 20 weeks, it becomes easier to manage.

That is manageable now! You only need to create a calorie deficit of about 500 calories per day by controlling your diet and increasing your amount of exercises to lose one pound a week.-Okay, now for the big "secret" — the missing key to your objectives: Write down your "Why" that's what you're doing? Most people skip this step, and it's a primary reason they never seem to be achieving their objectives. It is absolutely critical that you write down the reasons why you want each particular goal to be accomplished. For instance, if the aim is to "lose 20 pounds in 6 months,

"Write down why you want to lose that weight. And here's another tip: make it" personal and emotional. "The more" emotional "the cause, the more likely you will be moved toward the target.

An example of a good "reason why" is "I know being overweight is a leading cause of many health problems — I'm going to lose the 20 pounds and get healthier so I won't be a burden on my kids and stay healthy enough to attend my daughter's wedding and be there to carry my grandkids.

"All these things are important to you, of course.:-) But I'm sure you get a picture.-"Write it down and put it up!"Usually it's not good enough just to think about the goals in your head. You've got to write down all your specific goals and" why "reasons, and then paste it up where you're going to look at it every day. Don't write it down inside the drawer on a notebook and chuck it. Alternatively, tape it onto the mirror of your dressing table, or anywhere else in plain sight. Note, "off sight, out of hands!"

Just don't be too greedy. Look for a weekly loss of 1-2 pounds, at max! You are bad at losing more than that number. And most likely it will be caused by a water and/or muscle loss, rather than the excessive excess body fat. - Be rational and "go with the flow." The pounds didn't arrive immediately, so don't expect them to vanish too in a jiffy. And sometimes the weight loss isn't as fast as expected (or as much).

But don't get stressed out, because stress on the pounds will only add up. It is crucial you don't think of the cycle of weight loss as "all or nothing." Instead, think of it as "slowly yet steadily." Sometimes the weight may go up a little, but if you stick to your plan, at the end of the year you'll be still delighted! Use these simple steps this year and make a positive difference to your life! Best of all luck!
